How to Apply
Applying for Financial Aid at National University
Planning ahead and applying for financial aid can help students obtain an education that might otherwise be outside their financial reach.
The Financial Aid Office has created a student guide to financial aid with all necessary information required to apply for and receive financial aid. Download the complete guide, or review a highlighted version of the process below.
The financial aid process consists of three main steps:
Application –> Verification –> Award
Step 1: Application
To establish your eligibility for aid, you will be asked to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA serves as the initial application for most Federal Aid Programs and is used to establish your eligibility for financial assistance. To assure timely processing, please complete the FAFSA fully and accurately.
The federal processor will analyze your data and calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Once your EFC has been determined, the federal processor will email you a Student Aid Report (SAR), which you should review for accuracy. At that time, the University will also begin processing your award.
To receive financial aid each award year at the University, you must file the current year FAFSA and submit the requested verification documents if required. New FAFSA applications are available from the US Department of Education after October 1.
For details on this step, refer to the Financial Aid Guide, or go to Guides and Forms to download the FAFSA application.
Step 2: Verification
The Financial Aid Office will receive a copy of your FAFSA application from the U.S Department of Education. An email will be sent notifying students who are selected by the Department of Education, that they are required to complete the verification process. This will direct you to the student portal and your Financial Aid checklist.
- 2019 Federal Income Tax Return or Tax transcript

- Eligible student aid recipients will receive an email notification from the University that their aid application has been processed
