MA in SEL Scholarship
Master of Arts in Social Emotional Learning Scholarship Opportunity
The MA in SEL Scholarship will reward outstanding applicants who have demonstrated the potential for academic excellence with a partial scholarship to promote leadership in social emotional learning in their future schools, districts, or communities. All MA in SEL Scholarship winners are considered ambassadors for the Sanford College of Education.
Applicants will be recommended for the program by the Selection Committee and approved by the Dean of the Sanford College of Education, Dr. Dr. Robert Lee. The scholarship only applies to courses in the Master of Arts in Social Emotional Learning and provides 50% of the tuition for the program.
MA in SEL Scholarship winners will be expected to meet quarterly and to receive training in the Harmony program during their first quarter.
Eligibility Requirements
The MA in SEL Scholarship is open to all potential students who are seeking a Master of Arts in Social Emotional Learning. Applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and must maintain adequate progress toward their degree, completing within 15 months. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.5. Each candidate’s progress will be reviewed quarterly.
How to Apply
Each applicant is required to submit the following:
- A resume and cover letter
- A video, two-minutes or less, explaining why you want to be a leader specializing in social emotional learning
- A statement of intent, no longer than two pages, double-spaced with 12-point font, addressing your professional goals, your leadership experiences, and how you plan to become a transformational change-maker in social emotional learning
- Two letters of recommendation addressing your ability to work in the school community and your leadership skills
A committee composed of full-time faculty members will screen all applications and make a recommendation to the Dean of the Sanford College of Education, who will make the final decision.
Recognition, Engagement, and Responsibility
There will be special events planned for MA in SEL Scholarship winners which all winners are required to attend. They will complete Harmony professional development virtually within a quarter after receiving the scholarship. While engaged in their coursework, they may be asked to speak about their experiences. Upon completion of the program, they will meet to develop a plan-of-action as they continue their careers. They will maintain contact with the Sanford College of Education for one year after completing the program.
