San Diego, Calif. — National University’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program has been accredited by one of the most prestigious agencies of its kind in the world – the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
“We are pleased to have been recognized by ABET for our commitment to the highest standards of academic excellence as offered through our Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program, and we thank the faculty and staff for their dedication and diligence during this rigorous assessment process,” said Dr. John Cicero, Dean of the School of Engineering and Computing at the private, nonprofit National University.
The National University Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program, available online, provides a strong technical background for students planning to begin careers upon graduation and for those interested in graduate study in computer science. Degree requirements include courses in object oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, operating systems, computer communication networks, software engineering, and computer architecture, as well as mathematics, statistics, and the natural sciences. The program, first established in 1982, now enrolls more than 260 students and has produced more than 3,500 graduates since its inception.
ABET, a nonprofit recognized by the Council for Higher Education, accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor, and master degree levels.
National University’s department-wide effort involved widespread collaboration under the guidance of Dr. Alireza Moztarebi Farahani, a National University professor who is the Program Lead for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program – which is part of the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems.
“This accreditation affirms the demonstrated quality standards we offer our students, and demonstrates to employers worldwide our commitment to excellence through the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program,” said Dr. Mudasser F. Wyne, who chairs the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems.
National University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems also houses the Master of Science in Computer Science, the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, the Master of Science in Management Information Systems, the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security, the Master of Science in Data Analytics, and the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Information Technology programs. Also part of the Department is the Master of Science in Cyber Security and Information Assurance, which is also available online, and has received special designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security — the first and only such designation in San Diego County and one of just six in California.
