San Diego, Calif. – Dr. Don Chu has been named Dean of National University’s School of Education, Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, President of National University, announced today.
Prior to joining National University, the second-largest private, nonprofit university in California, Dr. Chu had been serving as Dean, College of Education, Health and Human Services at California State University, San Marcos. He served as Dean, College of Law and Public Service at the University of West Florida for six years, and he served as an Executive Fellow in the Office of the Chancellor of the California State University System for a year. Dr. Chu has held faculty and department chair positions at California State University, Chico and Skidmore College. He also served as a special education teacher in Westchester County, New York.
Dr. Chu earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in the fields of Government and Physical Education at Oberlin College. He earned a Master of Arts in Education and both a Master of Arts in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University, where he also served as a Teaching Fellow and the Supervisor of the Teacher Education Program.
Dr. Chu has written several books, including two on department chairs and several on the sociology of sport and the Olympics. His record includes many peer-review publications, book chapters, and presentations. His service to the teaching discipline includes memberships on the Board of Examiners for NCATE and several editorial board memberships. He has also served as an international and national workshop leader on the subject of chair and dean level leadership and management.
