La Jolla, Calif. – National University Virtual High School (NUVHS) announced today that it has been accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).
The WASC accreditation was announced in a letter from Gary Davis, Chair of the Accrediting Commission for Schools, which congratulated NUVHS for the quality of instruction it offers. NUVHS was granted the maximum accreditation term of six years. The accreditation came after a careful study of the Visiting Committee Report which noted many laudable aspects of NUVHS.
CITA is an accrediting authority both in the United States and throughout the world. CITA is an alliance of the largest American accrediting associations, which are responsible for evaluating and accrediting more than 30,000 schools in 100 countries. CITA provides accreditation to promote quality schools and continuous improvement, which enhances student success.
NUVHS offers media-rich, online high school courses in a flexible, student-centered format. Fully interactive and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, NUVHS courses are tailored to students’ learning and scheduling needs. NUVHS has provided online courses to students from over 105 schools in 20 counties throughout California and in 16 states. NUVHS is an affiliate of the National University System.
“Online classes have helped me get ahead in school and ultimately gave me the ability to graduate a year early,” said Sam Diaz, who took classes through NUVHS. “Online classes are also a great way for high school students to learn discipline and planning.”
“My experience with the NUVHS online course has been great,” said Don Danns, who also augmented his traditional high school classes through NUVHS. “I like the flexibility and being able to manage my time. As a senior I have been juggling many things including my senior research paper, senior project, courses for graduation, doing track and field and trying to improve my grade in another course. Taking Algebra II with NUVHS allowed me to work on yet another aspect of my academics. I would recommend it to anyone who needs more options.”
NUVHS is one of two accredited fully-online private high schools in the state of California at a time when the number of secondary-level students taking courses online is increasing rapidly, with the North American Council for Online Learning estimating the number of online enrollments at more than one million.
NUVHS’s affiliation with National University also provides a unique advantage to its students, who have the option of taking higher-education courses through the university, as well as access to National’s e-library, one of the largest of its kind in the nation.
