Course Listing

As the initial course in the entrepreneurship specialization, this course serves as the prerequisite for all future entrepreneurial studies. It’s recommended that you enter the course with a well thought out product or service venture. You’ll explore many facets of this new venture to determine its potential success in the marketplace, including feasibility; an analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT); and identification of potential investors.

In this course, you’ll learn to identify and analyze the various internal and external factors that impact the development of an effective marketing strategy. This will include governmental, business, technological, and political challenges and opportunities that exist in emerging national and international markets. The roles of history and tradition are also explored in light of their potential impact on various emerging market economies. The course requires you to delve into the following business topics: marketing early stage innovations and technologies, the dimensions of market research and analysis, intellectual property protection and management, and the foundations of a marketing plan. Finally, you’ll utilize current business case studies to demonstrate “real world application” of the concepts explored in this course to develop a strategic marketing plan for an existing or prospective business enterprise.

Forming a new business venture is an evolutionary process that requires research, analysis, assessment, and reevaluation of a new product or service in a competitive environment. In this course, you’ll assess various leadership styles, business models, and personnel skills to determine how they might be incorporated into your venture in order to maximize performance and success. You’ll also evaluate funding and financing options as well as market strategies based on an initial competitive analysis of the marketplace. Throughout the course, your goal will be to solidify and clarify your new venture plan through detailed research and analysis.

Here you’ll develop a plan to research, identify, and acquire the financial resources required for successfully funding a new venture. Fund sourcing will require you to examine business valuation, deal development, debt planning and structure, and the acquisition of venture capital from government agencies (e.g., the Small Business Administration) or interested investors. A clear and succinct strategy for funding the new venture will be paramount to the acceptance of your business plan by investors, stakeholders, bankers, or angel funds. Upon completion of this course, you should have a detailed financial plan to present to potential investors and other interested parties.
