Overview
The explosion of digital media resources provides today’s educators with a vast toolbox with which to aid and empower both their instruction and the way they create it. This post-master’s certificate builds on your experiences as an instructional designer to prepare you for leadership among design teams. You’ll develop your project management, collaboration, evaluation, and change management skills as they relate to design products, processes, and organizations. You’ll also explore ethical and legal considerations of content, especially in the online environment. The certificate concludes with special considerations specific to leadership in instructional design.
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredits public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the U.S.
Admission Requirements
A conferred master’s level or higher degree from a regionally or nationally accredited academic institution.

In this course, you’ll demonstrate advanced expertise in leading and managing complex design projects with diverse stakeholders. Toward this goal, you’ll determine needed resources, create timelines, overhaul procedures based on feedback, consider strategies to address legal, ethical, and political factors, and evaluate technologies that support the leading and managing of complex design and development projects.
This course develops the collaboration skills necessary to design and develop instructional and training solutions. You’ll learn to cultivate collaboration among the diverse stakeholders for the projects and processes you’re managing, including resource allocation and ROI estimating. The course will also continue your exploration of ethical, legal, and political considerations in project management and collaboration.
Design is iterative and should include feedback. This course helps hone your skills in securing such feedback by evaluating both the processes and products of instructional design and development. You’ll examine relevant principles and theories of evaluation, conduct various evaluations, and interpret the results for a diverse set of stakeholders. As you progress, you’ll reflect on the ethical, legal, and political implications of evaluation.
This course examines the ethical and legal implications of developing online content. You’ll consider the different ways content is distributed and protected, as well as the individual and collective implications that arise when laws and best practices are not adhered to. You’ll also consider ethical challenges and the need to consider multiple aspects of content accessibility. As you finish the course, you’ll be prepared to develop online content ethically and legally in a variety of e-learning contexts.
This course provides an analysis of change management processes and real-world change management situations in the context of various educational institutions. You’ll explore resources that help plan for and implement change. You’ll also examine the forces influencing organizational productivity and culture, and you’ll investigate the leadership practices necessary to lead educational organizations through change.
This course explores the special considerations faced by leaders of complex instructional design and development projects. These considerations will include the ethical, legal, and political factors you’ve reflected upon throughout your certificate program. These issues will also include leadership theories and practices for emerging models, theories, and technologies used in the projects and organizations you intend to lead.
